New House in Historic Brookeville

Montgomery County Historic Preservation Award, 2007 for compatible new construction in a historic district

Because of its location relative to several historic landmarks, this house was designed sensitively and subjected to stringent review by the Brookeville Planning Commission and the Montgomery County Historic Preservation Commission.  It is designed in a simple, vernacular style with some Craftsman-like elements and a small footprint (975 square feet).  Such elements were useful in making a large modern home for a growing family, while still respecting the local historic scale and massing.  Much of the finish work including cabinets and trim was carried out by the owners themselves.
